PhD Program is a collaboration program between SEAT and the UPC University where strategic research projects are carried out.

SEAT is committed to quality research and to advance in new areas of the future. For this reason, we are currently looking for motivated candidates to join our teams.

Project Description:

The integrated project aims to develop and assess methodologies for product circularity and monomaterial concepts for SEAT/CUPRA models. This includes creating a tailored strategy for circular materials to achieve CO2 reduction and circularity targets at the lowest possible economic cost and investigating/creating Monomaterial concepts (with high postconsumer recycled content (PCR-Content) that allow easy recycling of automotive plastic parts.

Goals and Benefits:

  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements (e.g.new End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV)-Regulation) at optimal cost.
  • Achieve CO2 reduction and circularity targets of VW Group and SEAT strategies
  • Improve ESG ratings.
  • Tailored to the Spanish ecosystem and available for future projects.
  • Increase the use of PCR closed-loop auto materials in SEAT/CUPRA cars.
  • Develop new monomaterial concepts for plastic parts hat provide high-quality finishes and are easily recyclable.

Combination of 2 Main Topics:

  • 1st Product Circularity methodology (tailored Circular Materials strategy)
  • 2nd Monomaterial-Concepts for automotive plastic parts (focus: Interior)

Required Qualifications:

Interest for automotive sector (desirable car-enthusiast)

Graduates (240 ECTS) with a Master’s degree (minimum 60 ECTS)

Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Engineering or equivalent.

Average score higher than 6.5

Valuable training in environmental aspects (circular economy, carbon footprint, Life Cycle Assessment, …)

Interest in research within the business world

Advanced Spanish and English.

Curiosity and passion for sustainability and polymers

Structured analytical approach for problem solving.

Good communication, presentation, technical writing, critical analysis, and problem solving skills.

Ability to work autonomously and proactively.
