Required education level

Master’s degree in Climate Finance, Environmental Economics, Sustainable Development, Risk Management, or a related field.

Skills and experience

· Experience in climate finance, disaster risk management, or financial policy development.

· Experience working with UN agencies, international financial institutions, or government bodies or in similar institutions

· Proven track record in mobilizing climate finance for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), is an asset.

· Expertise in climate risk assessment, financial modelling, and policy analysis.

· Knowledge of global climate finance mechanisms, including Green Climate Fund (GCF), Adaptation Fund, and concessional financing.

· Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and financial instruments for climate adaptation.

· Excellent stakeholder engagement and ability to coordinate across government, private sector, and international organizations.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. · Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to policymakers and local communities.

Nationality

Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.

Additional eligibility criteria

This assignment, including a 12 month contract extension, is funded by Spain and therefore candidates must be Spanish nationals. Candidates who already served on a UN Volunteer Specialist or UN Youth Volunteer assignment funded by Spain are not eligible to apply for an assignment in the same category.
