Organisation
Invest International opened its doors in October 2021, in The Hague. We are a state-owned company set up by the Dutch government. A private company funded with public capital. We are a new organization and are continuously developing. Our people are aligned with our mission and our 7 people drivers guide the way we work together.

The team
The role sits within our Impact and Environmental Social & Governance (IESG) team of 17 experienced colleagues. The role reports directly to the Manager, IESG. The IESG team is responsible for supporting the organization to achieve its business and impact priorities which include supporting Dutch businesses with financial solutions, creating more decent jobs, transforming international value chains sustainably, and contributing to global decarbonisation. In addition, the IESG team ensures that all Invest International’s clients have good ESG risk management policies and practices in place, in line with international standards and our IESG policy.

The position
In this position, you will assess and monitor the management of the social and environmental impacts of clients and projects, i.e. on how the negative aspects could be overcome and positive aspects maximized.

We are especially interested in a new colleague with interest and experience in ESG for public infrastructure projects in developing countries. You will be guided by Invest International’s Impact & ESG Policy and core international standards such as the IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability, OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, and the UN Guiding Principles on Human Rights.

Responsibilities:

Demonstrate and apply knowledge of ESG materiality risk for Invest International’s 5 sectors (Agrifood, Water/ Infrastructure, Health Energy, and Manufacturing).

Appraise various public infrastructure projects in Africa, Asia and LatAm, based on IFC Performance Standards, OECD, UNGP, and National standards.

Conduct ESG due diligence and periodic monitoring of projects (this can be with travel to the country of investment or virtual).

Prepare periodic or annual reviews of public infrastructure projects in your portfolio.

Regularly interact with business and front-line teams as well as occasionally with clients to identify potential opportunities to improve their ESG performance.

Form a link between the company (consultant or contractor), the recipient government and the Investment team via providing independent advice on ESG aspects of the projects during different phases (planning, operation, and maintenance).

Contribute to the ‘greening of public infrastructure’ initiative within Invest International.

Contribute towards the development and establishment of key policies and tooling on ESG and Impact. You support the further development and implementation of policy, strategy and process as part of the team and for broader internal and external collaboration.

Contribute to strengthening the content of the ESG themes and Invest International position statements on key issues such as Fossil Fuels, Animal welfare, Living Wage, B?od?vers?ty, Human Rights, Land Governance, etc.

Where necessary, you contribute to answering policy and parliamentary questions regarding ESG, as it concerns public infrastructure projects.

Requirements & characteristics
You have a university degree, preferably in the environmental or social management field.

You have at least 3-5 years of work experience in applying international guidelines and standards in the appraisal of developmental or infrastructure projects.

You have practical experience in appraising projects based on IFC Performance Standards and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.

You have experience with ESG working tools, among others, Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS), Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP) and Environmental Social Action Plan (ESAP).

You have experience in appraising E&S issues such as Human Rights, Biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples, Community resettlement, and Occupational Health & Safety) in complex infrastructure projects.

You have demonstrable knowledge of, among others, infrastructural development in developing countries.

Knowledge of the concepts of the greening of infrastructure and building with nature, is an advantage.

You have demonstrable experience of working in an environment with different stakeholders such as communities and NGOs, host governments and the private sector in developing countries.

You are willing and able to travel to developing countries, within the wide geographical portfolio coverage of Invest International.

You have a good command of the English and French language (both verbally and written).

Prior experience in advising companies and public sector institutions in the field of Impact & ESG is considered a strong advantage.

You have strong analytical and project management skills in assessing project applications and advising within projects.

You are able to work in a fast-moving dynamic environment while minding associated administrative, cultural and political sensitivities.

You are a team player with an open mindset to engaging new opportunities in the fascinating world of impact investing.

You have the required documentation to live and work in the Netherlands (i.e. passport, permits).

What we offer
A competitive total rewards package (base salary and 13th month, personal budget, 8% holiday allowance): salary scale 16: range between EUR 4.506 and EUR 5.351 gross per month with 36 hrs work week, excl. holiday allowance and 13th month.

12-month contract with the potential to extend afterward.
