NTU is implementing the contract “Technical Assistance package for the Sustainable Energy Support Programme in Tajikistan”. Within the duration of the project, NTU will secure reliable green and affordable energy, in line with the European Union’s approach to climate-resilience, risk-information and sustainable development through:

 

Better governance of Green Transition in Electricity Sector in Tajikistan.
Improved Legal and Regulatory frameworks for the establishment of a transparent, effective, and competitive power market in Tajikistan, and,
Enhanced organisational and financial capacity of the Generation-Transmission-Distribution Operators.

 

We are looking for an Environmental and Climate Change Expert interested in working in Tajikistan.

 

Minimum requirements:

A University degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Environmental Policy, or a related field is essential. A Master’s or Ph.D. degree will be a plus.
Minimum of 12 years of professional experience professional experience in environmental and/or climate change management.
A minimum of 3 years of specific professional experience in environmental and climate change management in the energy sector.
Strong knowledge of international environmental and climate change agreements, conventions, and protocols, and their relevance to the energy sector.
Demonstrated experience in conducting EIAs and implementing environmental and climate change mitigation strategies.
Proficiency in interpreting and applying environmental regulations and standards, both nationally and internationally.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on finding innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Tajik or Russian languages is advantageous.
Commitment to promoting environmentally sustainable energy sector reforms and contributing to climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts in Tajikistan.

 

Tasks include:

Environmental Impact Assessment: Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for energy projects and policies to evaluate potential environmental and social impacts.
Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation: Develop strategies and initiatives to integrate climate change mitigation and adaptation measures into the energy sector reforms, with a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing resilience.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that energy sector activities adhere to environmental laws, regulations, and international standards, advocating for environmentally responsible practices.
Sustainability Integration: Promote the integration of sustainability principles into energy policies and practices, considering the long-term environmental and social implications of energy projects.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with relevant government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international partners to foster cooperation on environmental and climate change initiatives.
Capacity Building: Provide training and capacity-building support to local stakeholders, enabling them to effectively address environmental and climate-related challenges in the energy sector.
Monitoring and Reporting: Establish monitoring systems to track environmental performance indicators, ensuring compliance and timely reporting on environmental targets.
Policy Development: Contribute to the development of policies and strategies that support the achievement of environmental and climate-related goals in the energy sector.
