Your Impact
As a Compliance Specialist, you will be based in Europe (with other options considered), as part of our Ethics & Compliance External Reporting team. The E&C function’s mission is to manage risks to our firm, our clients, and our people, while also enabling our firm’s client impact and innovation.
The E&C function is a globally integrated team within the second line of defense of our firm. McKinsey has an E&C program that is structured in a way that ensures that it is well designed, empowered to function effectively, and works in practice. Our E&C program includes a clear message that misconduct is not tolerated as well as policies, procedures, training, monitoring and consequence management to ensure the program is well-integrated into our firm’s operations and workforce. This opportunity works in the Regulatory Readiness and Response pillar, which is responsible for overseeing the centralized development and filing of external mandatory reports on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics. This role reports to the Associate Director of Compliance, Regulatory Readiness & Response (RRR), External Reporting.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing a complex reporting environment involving multiple standards and deadlines. Specifically, you will:
You will play a critical role in sustaining and evolving our firm’s E&C program and upholding our commitment to integrity and lawful practices by helping shape and evolve E&C’s new external reporting capability. In addition, you will be engaging in regionally focused initiatives, such as our infusing integrity agenda, under the direction and coordination of our regional E&C leaders, the purpose of which is to raise awareness of and further our firm’s E&C program, and other agreed-upon supporting activities in your region or location.
Your Qualifications and Skills
Ability to work or attend meetings outside of traditional business hours or take on projects with limited or no notice at times.
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree(s) and/or applicable professional certifications (e.g., Juris Doctor or CPA) preferred.
5+ years of professional experience as a Program Manager, preferably in a consulting or advisory role.
3+ years of experience in developing, driving and implementing holistic ethics/compliance programs preferred.
Distinctive competence in managing internal controls and control governance e.g., previous SOX experience preferred.
Previous management of Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) technology, analytics and other underlying elements of data risk program preferred.
Experience managing ESG-related reporting at publicly traded companies and familiarity with external reporting frameworks preferred.
Comprehensive understanding of domestic and international laws and regulations pertaining to professional services industry preferred.
Excellent organizational capabilities, including the ability to initiate tasks independently and see them through to completion.
Ability to build trust-based relationships with key leaders within and outside of the team and be recognized as a key thought partner.
Expertise in exercising highest levels of discretion and judgment in safeguarding confidential materials.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment and able to manage ambiguity with confidence.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and local office language(s), with the ability to adjust your style to suit different perspectives and seniority levels.
Proficient in rational decision making based on data, facts, and logical reasoning.
Ability to create work product-focused materials/outputs, which may include PowerPoint decks, Excel models, articles, or other written deliverables.
Exceptional time management to meet your responsibilities in a complex and largely autonomous work environment.
