The Elcano Royal Institute, in collaboration with the Ministry for Economy and Digitalization of Spain and the Ministry of Finance of Portugal, are pleased to invite you to a conversation with:
Speakers
Nadia Calviño, First Vice-President of the Government of Spain and Minister for Economy and Digitalization
Fernando Medina, Minister of Finance of Portugal
Moderated by
José Juan Ruiz, Chairman of the Elcano Royal Institute
The European economy is withstanding the shock of the Russian invasion of Ukraine better than expected. Moreover, the Union and its member states have put in place effective measures to avoid a recession and reduce the impact of inflation on citizens and businesses. However, prices remain high, financing costs are rising, the war in Ukraine continues, and the geopolitical context induces a subsidy race that threatens the competitiveness of the European industry. In this context, Nadia Calviño, First Vice President and Minister of Economy of Spain, and Fernando Medina, Minister of Finance of Portugal, will discuss the economic challenges facing Europe, with a special focus on the effectiveness, fairness and sustainability of public support to families and companies, the urgency of growth enhancing policies that promote Europe’s competitiveness, the reform of the economic governance framework and the priorities of the Spanish presidency, which will take place in the second half of 2023.
If you will attend in-person, please send your confirmation before 3rd February at midday indicating your full name and ID or passport number
