The architect of Morgan Stanley’s wealth management expansion since the great financial crisis will sit down with Breakingviews to discuss the outlook for corporate finance globally and how he plans to pull the investment bank further ahead of the Wall Street pack in the year ahead.
James Gorman is chairman and chief executive of Morgan Stanley. He joined the firm in 2006 following a succession of executive positions at Merrill Lynch, and was named Morgan Stanley’s CEO in January 2010, becoming chair two years later.
Born in Australia, Gorman began his career as an attorney in Melbourne, and was later a senior partner at McKinsey. He formerly served as a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, president of the Federal Advisory Council to the U.S. Fed, co-chairman of the Partnership for New York City, chairman of the board of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association and co-chairman of the business committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Today he serves as a director of the Council on Foreign Relations, co-chairs the Board of Overseers of the Columbia Business School, and is a member of the Financial Services Forum, The Business Council and the Business Roundtable.
